Artel is the largest maker of household appliances in Uzbekistan. A team led by Jahongir Artikkhodjaev set out in 2010 to build a national appliance brand with production inside the country, starting with a gas-stove plant in Tashkent; the Artel trademark was filed on 31 January 2011 and the first stoves came off the line that August. Televisions, air conditioners, washing machines and refrigerators followed over the next four years. The group was consolidated under the management company Artel Electronics LLC in 2020, and in 2021 became the first private manufacturer in Uzbekistan to be rated by Fitch. Much of what its factories build carries someone else's name under licence.
