Bhutan Agro Industries is a state-owned fruit and vegetable processor at Wangchutaba, twelve kilometres from Thimphu, set up in 1993 with financial and technical help from the Danish International Development Agency to give Bhutanese farmers a buyer for surplus horticultural produce. That surplus is still its main raw material. It diversified into bottled water in 1999 and opened a second plant at Lingmethang in Mongar in 2019 to reach farmers in eastern Bhutan. Its management passed to the Queen's Project Office in 2015 and ownership followed, moving from the Ministry of Finance to His Majesty's Secretariat.
