It was renamed Gray Mackenzie after a 1936 merger, joined the Inchcape group in 1955, and became Bahrain Maritime & Mercantile International in 1980 when Inchcape brought in local shareholders; Inchcape sold out in 1999, leaving it wholly Bahraini-owned, and the legal name was shortened to the acronym in 2010. It reported net profit of BD 7.5 million for 2025 and runs five segments — retail, wholesale, contract supply, hospitality, and investments and shipping — across Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Djibouti, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya and the United States.
