The Kogi State government incorporated it as Obajana Cement Plc in November 1992; Dangote Industries, the group Aliko Dangote founded as a trading business in 1981, bought it in 2002 when no plant had yet been built, opened the Obajana works in 2007, renamed the company Dangote Cement Plc in July 2010 and listed it on the premium board of the Nigerian Stock Exchange that October. It sells three cement brands, distinguished by strength class rather than by consumer positioning.
