It dates itself to 1 December 1965, when Román Ramos Uría — a Spaniard who had emigrated to the Caribbean in 1959 and joined Almacenes La Sirena as an employee in April 1963 — bought a small store on Avenida Mella in Santo Domingo. The group now runs the Sirena multicentros, the Sirena Market supermarkets and the Aprezio discount chain, develops the Multiplaza centres those stores anchor, and says it was the first company in the Dominican hypermarket and supermarket sector to adopt an omnichannel strategy, in 2019.
