Birra Tirana: brands it owns and its ownership tree

Birra Tirana is a privately held company headquartered in Tirana, Albania that owns 3 consumer brands.^[1]

Birra Tirana traces to 1960, when a brewery was set up inside the state food-processing plant Kombinati Ushqimor "Ali Kelmendi" in Tirana; commercial production began in 1961 on Soviet-supplied equipment, and a 1983 upgrade with German and Swedish machinery more than doubled capacity to around 150,000 hectolitres a year. After Albania's transition to a market economy the brewery became an independent company under the name Birra Malto, and was privatised in 2001 into the hands of a group of Albanian investors, who have held a controlling stake since; the brand was renamed Birra Tirana in 2006 after ISO 9001 certification. It is brewed under what the company describes as the requirements of Germany's 1516 Reinheitsgebot purity law, using malt from Croatian and Austrian suppliers, Bavarian hops, Selitë spring water and a yeast culture the brewery says it has maintained for more than 30 years, and today accounts for a large share, by some estimates up to 30 per cent, of all beer sold in Albania.
