Opera: brands it owns and its ownership tree
Opera (NASDAQ: OPRA) is a publicly listed company headquartered in Oslo, Norway that owns 10 consumer brands.[1][2]
Opera is itself owned by Kunlun Tech (68%).[1]
Opera is a consumer internet company headquartered at Vitaminveien 4 in Oslo, whose browsers had around 258 million average monthly active users in the last quarter of 2025 out of 284 million across all its products. Its annual report describes the business as founded in 1995 and traces its history to 1996, when the first Opera-branded browser was released; it introduced the first full web browser for mobile phones in 2002. The holding company is registered in the Cayman Islands and its ADSs trade on Nasdaq as OPRA, but 68 per cent of its shares are held by Hong Kong Kunlun Tech Holding Limited, and the filing names the Shenzhen-listed Kunlun Tech Co., Ltd. as Opera's ultimate parent. Most of its revenue comes from query and search distribution agreements — with Google since 2001 and Yandex since 2007 — and from its own Opera Ads platform. Its development is done mainly in Wrocław, Dundee, Beijing, Linköping and Gothenburg rather than in Norway.
