Sopharma is the largest Bulgarian pharmaceutical company, a producer, exporter and domestic distributor of prescription medicines, generics, herbal-based substances, food supplements, cosmetics and medical devices. It was established in 1933, when the Bulgarian Pharmacists' Cooperative Society built the first laboratory for manufacturing medicines in the country on the edge of Sofia, and it became a private company in 2000. The group manufactures at twenty specialised facilities across seven sites in Bulgaria, Serbia and Ukraine, and distributes through Sopharma Trading, which it owns 87.32 per cent of, and through subsidiaries in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Poland and Belarus.
