SUU is Mongolia's first dairy company, established in 1958 when a plant able to process thirty tonnes of milk a day was commissioned in the Bayanzürkh district of Ulaanbaatar. Behind it lay a collection network built through the 1940s and 1950s under the Ministry of Agriculture: some 300 milk collection points and two butter factories. The company became a joint-stock company in 1991 during Mongolia's privatisation, was fully privatised in 2006 and now trades publicly with more than 13,000 shareholders. In 2024 it invested 44 billion tugrik in technology that tripled its production capacity and brought in probiotic products, and it now sells milk, flavoured milk and yogurt to both city and countryside under a dozen brands.
