The New York Times acquires The Athletic (2022)
The New York Times completed the acquisition of The Athletic on 1 February 2022 for $550 million.[1]
The New York Times Company acquired The Athletic Media Company, a subscription sports site covering clubs and teams in the United States and abroad, for an all-cash price of $550.0 million funded from cash on hand. It was large enough to change how the company reports itself: from the first quarter of 2022 the Times has had two reportable segments, The New York Times Group and The Athletic.
