Sainsbury's merger (2018)

Sainsbury's announced a merger with Asda on 30 April 2018; the deal is blocked.[1]

Sainsbury's and Asda agreed to merge in 2018, which would have created the largest supermarket group in Britain ahead of Tesco. The Competition and Markets Authority prohibited it in April 2019 and the parties abandoned the transaction.

No ownership edge is recorded, because the merger was blocked and never took effect. Walmart sold Asda separately two years later.
