United States Federal Communications Commission: how it reviews brand acquisitions

The Federal Communications Commission must consent before control of a broadcast licence changes hands, so any acquisition of a company that owns American television or radio stations needs its approval alongside antitrust review. It asks whether the transfer serves the public interest, convenience and necessity, and may grant the applications, grant them on the strength of commitments or conditions, or designate them for a hearing.
