Oettinger Davidoff traces to a cigar shop Max Oettinger opened in Basel in 1875. Dr. Ernst Schneider took over management in 1961, and in 1970 the group acquired the Geneva shop of Zino Davidoff, whose oval white cigar ring had marked the birth of the Davidoff cigar brand, created in Cuba in 1968. When Cuban supply ended, Davidoff moved all its cigar production to Villa González, Santiago, in the Dominican Republic in 1991, where it has been made ever since. The group remains family-owned by the Schneider family, reports sales of more than half a billion Swiss francs, and runs about 4,000 employees, 65 Davidoff flagship stores and manufacturing in the Dominican Republic and Honduras (through Agroindustrias Diadema Zona Franca Honduras SA) making Camacho, Zino, Griffin's, Cusano and Private Stock alongside the flagship name.
