United Confectioners was formed in 2002 to unite what had been separately run Russian chocolate and candy factories into a single holding, and it describes itself as the largest confectionery enterprise in Eastern Europe and a top-20 confectionery seller worldwide. The holding is part of Guta Group rather than an independently listed company, and by its own account brings together sixteen factories, among them the historic Moscow houses Krasny Oktyabr, Rot Front and Babayevsky, together with regional plants in Tula, Penza, Smolensk, the Urals, Nizhny Novgorod, Zeya, Voronezh, Mari El and Novosibirsk. Across those factories it reports making more than 300,000 tonnes of confectionery a year across roughly 3,500 product varieties, sold through more than 200,000 retail points and exported to over 50 countries.
