Whirlpool acquires Maytag (2006)

Whirlpool completed the acquisition of Maytag on 31 March 2006 for $1.7 billion.[1]

Whirlpool acquired Maytag for about $1.7 billion including debt, after a contested process in which a private equity group and the Chinese manufacturer Haier had both bid. The Department of Justice reviewed the combination of two of the largest American appliance makers and closed its investigation without challenge.
