Majid Al Futtaim holds the exclusive right to operate Carrefour in twelve markets across the Middle East, Africa and Asia and runs more than 390 hypermarkets and supermarkets under the name, offering upwards of 100,000 food and non-food lines. It opened its first store at City Centre Deira in 1995 and bought Carrefour SA out of the remaining 25 per cent of the hypermarket company in 2013, but the name is still not its own: Carrefour charges a sales-based franchise fee and the agreement runs to 2031.
