Rémy Cointreau acquires Westland

Remy Cointreau completed its purchase of Westland Distillery in Seattle on 6 January 2017, the day after closing on Domaine des Hautes Glaces in the French Alps. Two single malt distilleries in two days, on two continents, neither of them Scottish: the group was buying into the idea that single malt whisky is defined by method and terroir rather than by geography. The price was not disclosed.
