About Gundam
Gundam began as a 1979 animated series that treated giant robots as military hardware rather than superheroes, and its plastic model kits have sold in the hundreds of millions. A life-sized moving statue stands in Yokohama. Bandai bought the model kit rights in 1980 after the series was cancelled early for poor ratings, and the kits then made it a success in reruns.
