About Hoyo de Monterrey
Hoyo de Monterrey takes its name from a Vuelta Abajo tobacco plantation founded by José Gener and is one of Habanos S.A.'s historic Cuban brands, sold worldwide except in the United States, where the 1962 US trade embargo on Cuba blocks Cuban cigars entirely. A separate, unrelated Dominican- and Honduran-made "Hoyo de Monterrey" is sold in the United States by General Cigar Company, a Scandinavian Tobacco Group subsidiary, under a name it has used with no ownership connection to Habanos S.A.
