About Havana Club
Havana Club is a rum made in Cuba and sold around the world outside the United States by Havana Club International S.A., the joint venture Pernod Ricard created in 1993 with the Cuban rum company Cuba Ron. Pernod Ricard holds 50 per cent of Havana Club Holding, the joint-venture company that owns the trademark in most countries. The name goes back to a rum the Arechabala family created in Cuba in 1934. Inside the United States, where the Cuban rum cannot be sold, a separate Havana Club distilled in Puerto Rico is sold by Bacardi, which bought the rights from the Arechabala family, and the two sides have contested the US trademark in American courts since 1995.
