About the owner: Paradise Foods
Paradise Foods is a privately held company headquartered in Lae, Papua New Guinea, founded in 1937. Brandtree records 16 brands under its control.
Paradise Foods calls itself the oldest established food manufacturing business in Papua New Guinea. It goes back to bakeries run at Wau and Salamaua in Morobe Province by Robert McEwan and Captain R.O. Mant, which became Morobe Bakery Pty Ltd in 1937, and to a second business, Paradise Bakery, started by the Wong family in Rabaul in 1948. Arnott's Biscuits of Australia took a majority share in 1972, Arnott's bought Paradise Bakery in 1992 and merged the two biscuit brands into one company holding about 75 per cent of the domestic market, and the business traded as Arnotts Biscuits (PNG) Limited from 1993. In July 2007 Campbell's and Arnott's sold their shares to the two remaining shareholders, Nambawan Super and Comrade Trustees Services Limited, and the company became Paradise Foods Limited. Since June 2021 the superannuation fund Nambawan Super Limited has been its sole owner, holding it as about three per cent of the fund. It bought Laga Industries from Steamships Trading Company on 2 July 2018 and amalgamated it in 2023, which is how a biscuit maker came to sell ice cream, bottled water and chocolate from its Lae factory.
