About Van Gilse
Van Gilse is the Dutch consumer sugar brand of Cosun Beet Company, sold in more than 30 products from granulated sugar and sugar cubes to icing sugar and sugar syrup. The business was founded in Roosendaal in 1882 by the Van Gilse brothers to make candy sugar, and added soft brown sugar, icing sugar and syrups in 1937. The United Cooperative Sugar Factories of Dinteloord, Roosendaal and Zevenbergen took it over in 1957, and it became the flagship brand of Suiker Unie, which renamed itself Cosun Beet Company in 2020 while keeping the Van Gilse name.
