It traces itself to Bachhraj Trading Corporation, incorporated on 29 November 1945 and renamed Bajaj Auto in 1960; the present listed company was the automobile business carved out in the 2008 demerger of the old one. It is the world's largest maker of three-wheelers, and in November 2025 it took sole control of the Austrian group that owns KTM.
