Colombina is a Colombian food company founded in 1927 by Hernando Caicedo, a Valle del Cauca sugar planter who decided to add value to the output of his own mill by turning it into sweets. The tropical-fruit hard candies it launched in 1935 became popular enough to be known simply as colombinas. It is still run by the founder's descendants — César A. Caicedo has led it since 2002 and the board is dominated by Caicedo family members — and it now sells around $885 million a year across confectionery, biscuits, sauces, ice cream and canned fish in more than eighty countries. Two of the best-known names in its catalogue are not its own: Van Camp's and Café Buendía are distribution agreements, which it reports separately as represented products.
