La Fabril is an Ecuadorian manufacturer constituted in 1935 that began operating in 1968 under Carlos González-Artigas Díaz, and it now leads the country in fats, oils, oleochemicals, biofuels and cleaning and hygiene products. In 2002 it bought the La Favorita oils and fats factory from Unilever, brands included, which made it the largest edible oils and fats business in Ecuador. It calls itself "the industry of ideas" and has run its own oils and fats research centre since the 1990s; it says it was the first company in Latin America to fractionate palm kernel oil to make cocoa butter substitutes.
