Liviko is Estonia's largest spirits producer, working from the Tallinn building put up between 1898 and 1900 for the state vodka warehouse Kroonu Viinaladu No. 1, founded on 25 September 1898. It was renamed repeatedly under successive regimes — Riigi Viinaladu in 1924, Riigi Viinatehas in 1938, Tallinna Viinatehas in 1940 — and took the name Liviko in 1971 from "likööri ja viinakokteil", the liqueur-and-vodka cocktail its master distiller Ilse Maar had created in 1950. It became a public limited company in 1995 and has belonged to the Estonian investment group NG Investeeringud since 2000. It makes more than 70 alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and sells in about 60 markets. It also imports and represents other producers' brands across the Baltics, among them Bacardi-Martini since 2010, Rémy Cointreau since 2018 and Brown-Forman since 2020; those are distribution agreements, not brands it owns.
