About Amul Butter
Amul Butter holds the overwhelming majority of the branded butter market in India, so much so that the brand name is used generically for butter in several Indian languages. Its yellow foil pack has barely changed since the 1950s. It is made from cream separated at village collection centres across Gujarat, and the cooperative pays its member farmers a share of the final sale price rather than a fixed commodity rate.

About the owner: Amul
Amul is a cooperative headquartered in Anand, India, founded in 1946. Brandtree records 3 brands under its control.
Amul is a cooperative owned by roughly three and a half million dairy farmers in Gujarat, formed in 1946 out of a farmers' strike against exploitative milk contractors. The model it created, later replicated nationwide as Operation Flood, turned India from a milk-deficient country into the largest producer in the world.
