About 7-Eleven
There are more 7-Eleven stores than any other retail chain on earth. It began in Dallas in 1927 as an ice house that started selling milk and eggs, and took its name in 1946 from the hours it kept. The Japanese licensee it created in 1973 eventually bought its American parent out of bankruptcy, which is why a chain founded in Texas is owned from Tokyo, and why the Japanese stores are the ones the rest of the group is measured against.
