About Atlantic Records

Atlantic Records was founded in 1947 by the son of a Turkish ambassador and became the most important label in rhythm and blues and soul, recording Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin before signing Led Zeppelin. Its founder Ahmet Ertegun also co-founded the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the label's early recordings are held up as a template for how independent labels found audiences the majors ignored.
