About Elektra Records
Elektra was founded in 1950 by a college student with $300 to record folk music, and later signed The Doors and Queen. It is one of the three historic labels whose initials formed the WEA distribution arm. Its founder recorded much of the early catalogue himself on portable equipment, and the label later helped introduce American audiences to British acts during the 1970s.
