About Def Jam Recordings
Def Jam was started in a New York University dormitory in 1984 and took hip-hop from the margins to the centre of popular music, releasing LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Jay-Z and Kanye West. Its co-founder Rick Rubin produced many of its early records in that dormitory, and the label's logo has changed very little since it was drawn in the mid-1980s.
