Camel is one of JT International's four global flagship brands. JT gained the rights to sell Camel everywhere outside the United States when it bought RJR Nabisco's international tobacco business in a transaction that completed on 12 May 1999, for $8 billion including assumed debt. R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, now part of British American Tobacco, kept the US rights, so Camel has had two separate owners by market since 1999.
