On 4 March 2026 the company and most of its subsidiaries filed for Chapter 11 protection with a prepackaged plan that hands almost all of the new shares to its lenders and noteholders and cuts its debt by about $592 million. The court confirmed the plan on 15 April 2026; in August 2026 it was still waiting on approval from the Federal Communications Commission to take effect. It is the company's second bankruptcy: its predecessor emerged from one in June 2018.
