FatFace was started by two ski bums selling sweatshirts to fund another season in the Alps, and its name comes from a run on Val d'Isère. Next acquired it in 2023 after the chain ran into difficulty. Next acquired it through a pre-pack administration, a structure that let the buyer take the brand and the viable shops while leaving unwanted liabilities behind.
