About Jarlsberg
Jarlsberg is a sweet, nutty Norwegian cheese developed in the 1950s by Professor Ystgaard and his students at the Agricultural University of Norway; TINE marked its 65th anniversary in 2021 and its 70th in 2026. TINE calls it its biggest export product, and it is also made in the US and Ireland. Sales abroad were 14,000 tonnes in 2025, down 1,000 because of weaker US sales, even as it became the fastest-growing sliced hard cheese in British supermarkets.
