About Marui Imai
Marui Imai is a Hokkaido department store name that dates from 1872, when Imai Tōshichi opened a small goods shop beside the Sōsei Bridge; he opened the Imai kimono shop in 1874. When the original Marui Imai company went through civil rehabilitation, two companies set up by Isetan Mitsukoshi agreed on 29 June 2009 to take over its Sapporo and Hakodate businesses. Today Sapporo Marui Mitsukoshi Co., Ltd. and Hakodate Marui Imai Co., Ltd. are both wholly owned subsidiaries.
