About Varilux
Varilux is the progressive lens that Bernard Maitenaz, an engineer at the Paris eyewear cooperative Société des Lunetiers, created in 1959. It is sold through Essilor, now part of EssilorLuxottica, which calls it the progressive lens brand most recommended by eye care professionals, backed by more than 70 patents. The Varilux XR series launched in 2023 and Varilux Physio extensee in 2025 use AI in lens design.
