Nói Síríus is the Icelandic confectioner founded in Reykjavík in 1920 as Brjóstsykursgerðin Nói, a boiled-sweet works started in a basement on Óðinsgata by five men who put in 1,100 krónur each. It became a chocolate maker in 1933 by buying the Danish factory Síríus from Galle & Jessen, merged the two names into Nói Síríus hf. in 1977, and has been largely held throughout its history by the same family, the descendants of the wholesaler Hallgrímur Benediktsson, whose company took a majority stake in 1924. Women have chaired its board without interruption since 1954. It employs around 130 people at Hestháls in Reykjavík and exports to the United States, Canada, Denmark and the Faroe Islands among others.
