Tikveš was founded in 1885 in Kavadarci, in what it describes as the first Balkan winery to make wine from its own vineyards, was nationalised in 1947 under Yugoslavia and reprivatised in 2003 when it was bought by M6 Investments, controlled by Svetozar Janevski, who chairs the company's management board today. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development held a minority stake from 2008 before selling it back to M6 some years later. The winery now processes around 55 million kilograms of grapes a year into roughly 35 million litres of wine across 24 wine types, sold in the Balkans, the European Union, Russia, Ukraine, North America and Australia, and trades on the Macedonian Stock Exchange as TKVS.
