About Austrian Airlines
Austrian Airlines was bought by Lufthansa in 2009 after the Austrian state wrote off much of its debt to make the sale possible. Its network into central and eastern Europe complements the group's German hubs. Its Vienna hub has long served destinations in the former Habsburg territories that larger carriers overlook, which is the commercial logic behind keeping the brand separate.
