About Blancpain

Blancpain is the oldest surviving watch brand, recorded in 1735, and it has never made a quartz watch, a position it has advertised for decades. Its Fifty Fathoms from 1953 is among the first modern diving watches. The company was effectively dormant through the quartz crisis and was restarted in 1983, before Swatch Group acquired it in 1992.

About the owner: Swatch Group

Swatch Group is a publicly listed company headquartered in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, founded in 1983. Brandtree records 7 brands under its control, and it is listed as SIX: UHR.

Swatch Group was formed in 1983 from the merger of two Swiss watch conglomerates that were close to collapse under competition from cheap quartz watches. Nicolas Hayek reorganised them and launched the Swatch watch, which rescued the Swiss industry. The Hayek family still controls the group.
