It was HanTing Hotel Group, then China Lodging Group, then Huazhu, and took its present name in 2022. Only 573 of its hotels are leased or owned; the rest run under what it calls the manachise model, where a franchisee owns the property and H World supplies the manager. Its European business, bought as Deutsche Hospitality on 2 January 2020, trades under Steigenberger and four other brands.
