OkCupid is owned by Match Group (the United States, NASDAQ: MTCH), which acquired the brand on 2 February 2011.[1][2] OkCupid was founded in 2004 in the United States and was independent until 2011.
OkCupid was founded in 2004 by Harvard mathematics graduates and matched people using answers to a long questionnaire. Its blog analysing its own data was widely read, and it was acquired by IAC in 2011 for about $50 million. Match Group now owns it, so a service built to differentiate itself from Match.com is run by the same company, which is true of most of the apps people switch between.
IAC acquired OkCupid for about $50 million and placed it alongside Match.com. OkCupid had built its audience on a long compatibility questionnaire and on a blog that analysed its own users' data, and it was free when Match.com charged a subscription.
