St. Regis is owned by Marriott (the United States, NASDAQ: MAR), which acquired the brand on 23 September 2016.[1][2] St. Regis was founded in 1904 in New York, New York and was independent until 2016.
The St. Regis was built in New York by John Jacob Astor IV, who died on the Titanic eight years later. Its butler service and the Bloody Mary, which was created at its bar, are both part of the brand's standard offer.
Marriott acquired Starwood Hotels & Resorts for about $13 billion, creating the largest hotel company in the world with around thirty brands. A rival Chinese-led bid pushed the price up during the process before being withdrawn.
