Toshiba home appliances have been made by Midea since 2016, when it bought Toshiba Lifestyle Products & Services. Toshiba's announcement said Midea took an 80.1 per cent stake, Toshiba kept 19.9 per cent, and Midea received a worldwide licence to use the Toshiba brand on appliances for 40 years — so Midea runs the business but Toshiba still owns the name.
