Most practices are joint ventures: a vet partner holds the 'A' shares and runs the practice with full clinical freedom, while the group holds non-participating 'B' shares and charges fees for support. In March 2026 there were 407 joint-venture and 48 company-managed practices. Pets at Home opened in-store practices as Companion Care in 1999 and bought Vets4Pets in 2013.
