About Cisk
Cisk is Malta's lager, launched in 1929 as Cisk Munchener by the Malta Export Brewery, which had been granted a temporary exclusive licence to make Pilsner and Bavarian-style beers. The odd name is a nickname: the banker Giuseppe Scicluna, whose family firm owned the brewery, was known as Ic-Cisk after a Maltese mispronunciation of "cheques", which he had introduced to the island. The portfolio now runs to Cisk Lager, Excel, the flavoured Chill range, Strong, a 3.0 per cent Cisk Session and Cisk 0.0, which the company reports as the market leader in non-alcoholic beer in Malta. It is exported, with Italy the strongest market.
