About Havana Club (United States)
Havana Club in the United States is a rum distilled in Puerto Rico and sold by Bacardi, which bought the name and the original recipe from the Arechabala family, who created Havana Club in Cuba in 1934, and relaunched it in the US with their agreement. Its range is Havana Club Añejo Blanco and Añejo Clásico. It has no ownership connection to the Cuban-made Havana Club sold everywhere else by Pernod Ricard's joint venture with the Cuban rum company Cuba Ron. The two sides have contested the US trademark since 1995: Pernod Ricard's 2024/25 filing says the Cuban US registration, held by Cubaexport, runs to July 2026, and that a US law passed in December 2024 makes renewing it technically impossible.
