Indesit is owned by Arçelik (Turkey, BIST: ARCLK), which acquired the brand on 1 April 2024 from Whirlpool.[1][2] Before Arçelik, Indesit was owned by Whirlpool from 2014 to 2024.[2]
Indesit is an Italian appliance brand with more than sixty years in Europe and its strongest position in laundry, ranked first in France and second in Italy by unit sales in 2023. Whirlpool contributed its European major domestic appliance business into a new company with Arcelik called Beko Europe, keeping a 25 per cent interest in it, and separately sold its Middle East and North Africa business to the same buyer. The effect was to hand a Turkish manufacturer control of Indesit, Hotpoint in Europe and Bauknecht, and to move Whirlpool from owning a European business to licensing its own name back to the company that now runs one: it agreed a multi-year licence of the Whirlpool brand to Beko Europe for European sales.
Whirlpool acquired a controlling stake in Indesit, taking Hotpoint in Europe with it and becoming the largest appliance manufacturer on the continent. The Hotpoint name belongs to a different company in North America, a legacy of the original business being split between British and American owners.
