Partagas in the United States is a Dominican-made cigar sold by General Cigar Company, a Scandinavian Tobacco Group subsidiary that lists it on its own brand pages, and it has no ownership connection to the Cuban brand of the same name. Outside the United States, Partagás is a Cuban-made cigar tracing to Jaime Partagás's 1845 Havana factory and sold worldwide by Habanos S.A. The two products carry the same name only because the US trade embargo on Cuba, in force since 1962, closed the American market to Cuban tobacco and left US sellers to build a separate product under it.
